Tips for Natural Radiant Hair

Updated: May 11, 2021

When it comes to having healthy hair, just like everything else, the most important remedy is a clean diet. Supplements and products that are targeted for healthy hair, will only work if your diet is also being considered. Chemical free products are really important as well, as they help to protect your hair. Here are some tips when trying to grow your hair naturally:

  1. Coconut oil heals everything- it’s a fact. Depending on your type of hair, adding coconut oil from the ears down to your ends before a shower is a great way for extra nourishment. You can leave this in your hair for as long as you want, and then wash it out well in the shower. I also put coconut oil in my hair after a shower, because it is the cleanest leave-in conditioner out there.

  2. Clean shampoo and conditioner makes a huge difference! Your average shampoo, like Pantene, contains so many chemicals that it not only damages your hair in the long run, it also causes health issues. There are toxic chemicals like: Proplyparaben, isobutene, and DMDM hydantoin- all of which disrupt the hormones, and endocrine system. If you suffer from acne, your shampoo could also be causing that. Look out for other harmful chemicals like: BHT, BHA, parabens, phthalates, PEG, and fragrance. The ingredient fragrance can contain up to 2000 other ingredients and it is evident that none of these are the good kind. Natural shampoos show real results and I find that I don’t need to wash my hair as often with these. Some great ones to keep in mind are: Nature’s Aid, Carina Organics, Andalou.

  3. To treat damaged or dry hair, use hydrating oil like jojoba, argan, olive or avocado and mix it with a tablespoon of caster oil. Caster oil is a very dense oil proven to repair damaged hair, and help in the process of growing hair. Apply this a few hours before showering, and let it sit.

  4. To thicken thin hair, use a few drops of apple cider vinegar in your shampoo or try this mask: 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 tablespoon of caster oil, a full egg, a few drops of apple cider vinegar and peppermint. This helps build the protein of your hair to create a more fuller look. You can leave this on for about half an hour to an hour and then wash it out.

  5. Apply as little heat as possible to your hair, and use coconut oil as a heat protectant when using an iron. Heat protecting products contain so many harmful ingredients (surprise..), which become so much more available to the body when heat is added to them. Pantene Pro-V Style Series Smooth Heat Protecting spray contains 9 harmful chemicals before it’s even heated. Inhaling the scent of these types of products alone, is enough to trigger the brain.

  6. Do your best to wash your hair only when necessary. I know that sounds gross to a lot of people, but the less you wash your hair, the stronger and healthier it will be (definitely not saying don't shower). When you constantly wash your hair, you strip your scalp of natural oils, which are needed to grow the hair. Try going one more day without washing your hair, and use dry shampoo if you need it. It takes quite some time to train your hair to be able to go without washing, but if you’re dedicated to getting stronger hair, this step works wonders.

  7. Add more protein and greens into your diet. Protein is necessary for building stronger stands. Incorporate protein in each of your meals to sustain healthy blood sugar levels, and naturally grow your hair. Greens are also vital for this process, as they contain numerous amounts of vitamins and minerals. If your body isn’t getting the nutrients it needs, the first place it will show deficiency in is your hair. Nice hair might be important to you, but to your body, it isn’t. Adding vegetables from the cruciferous family works exceptionally well: Kale, broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts.

These tips are pretty basic, but I believe that hair care should be as simple as possible. The less you use, the more money you save and the stronger your hair can become. I hope these little tips help!
