Detox Smoothie

One of my favourite ways to get my greens in is by making a smoothie out of them. With a busy schedule, it can be hard to get the right amount of whole foods in. Whole foods are filled with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants- the proper kind of fuel. Some of the benefits that come with smoothies consist of:

  • Natural energy

  • Light daily detox

  • Better nutrient absorption, due to blending

  • Ensuring daily servings of fruits and vegetables

  • Cleaner and healthier looking skin

  • Weight and fat loss

  • Overall hydration and health

and the list goes on…. My two favourite combinations to blend are green spinach , and a red beet juice. When juicing, it is super important to remember to only use fruits and vegetables that are certified organic. Otherwise, pesticides will take over creating more harm than good. Produce with a thinner layer of skin should always be purchased organically. (cucumbers, apples, celery, spinach) Clean Green

  • 2 cups organic spinach or kale

  • 2-3 stalks of organic celery

  • 1/2 cup organic cucumbers

  • 1/2 of an organic apple for sweetness

  • 2 tbs fresh pea sprouts

  • 2 tbs hemp seeds

  • 1/3 organic lemon

Your juices or smoothies should always be 90% vegetables, and 10% fruit. Fruit contains high amounts of fibre, however, once blended the fibre content is lost. Although fruit only contains natural sugars, it can only be digested by the body in little amounts. Sugar is Sugar. Start by blending the leafy greens with half a cup of water for a few seconds. This allows the greens to mix better with the rest of the produce, without leaving much foam. Blend the rest of the ingredients together and drink up! Beet based

  • 1 cup spinach or kale

  • 1-2 stalks of organic celery

  • 1 organic carrot

  • 1 1/2 of organic red beet

  • 1/2 of an organic apple or pear

  • 1 tbs chia seeds

  • 2 tbs organic pumpkin seeds

  • 1/3 organic lemon

Start with blending the leafy greens with half a cup of water. Once blended into a liquid, add the remaining produce and enjoy. Try doing this every day for a week and notice how much your body will thank you.
